Dordrecht
Lucien den Arend accentuated the circular form by
painting white bands on the stems. He had memories of the regular trips
accompanying his mother and father, who had a cigar store, to the southern
provinces of the Netherlands to buy hand made cigars from small private
factories. This was during the second half of the forties. Many of the streets were
lined with trees, some still having white bands painted on them during the
black-outs in the Second World War.
